here are selections of nutrients that help your tree grow healthily and strong, different trees require different amounts of each nutrient. They also grow stronger through using fertilizer around once a year especially in the earlier years to help the tree to grow.
Some of the different nutrients and benefits the trees can have from being supplemented are:
- Nitrogen - This helps the tree in the way it makes promotes bark and branch growth with in the tree. It also makes the trees leaves a dark green colour, thick and healthy. Although with the promoted growth of branches it is important to keep pruning the tree on a regular basis other wise it could end up with diseased branches. Plus if you are pruning it from an early age then it will be healthier through out the rest of its life.

- Phosphorus - This helps your tree in the way of photosynthesis and respiration. It helps the tree grow in general promoting flower and root growth from an early age, however, many urban soil areas are usually low in phosphorus levels unless they have been treated with fertilizers for a number of years. This is why farm land tends to be high in phosphorus because it has been fertilized and used for growing different plants for years.
- Potassium - If you want to help protect your trees from disease and if the weather be drought or winter, potassium can help your tree survive by helping the water flow through the trees system. This doesn't get into the plants system as quickly as the nitrogen but is administered in the same way through the soil or water.
If you want to use fertilizer on your trees you are best doing so around spring as this gives the tree adequate time to harden of before winter. If you do it too late on in summer then the tree won't have time to harden and will be more susceptible to harm through the winter months. The way to disperse the fertilizer is to make holes around the feeding area around 7 inches deep you want to make about 30 - 50 holes round the feeding area this may seem excessive but it ensures the tree will receive the fertilizer nutrients in abundance.
You can get different types of fertilizer slow release, fast release and natural fertilizer all should be used at different times of the year to work affectively. Slow release fertilizers go into the soil surrounding the tree slowly meaning they need not be added to the soil on a regular basis because it provides the nutrients in small amounts for a long period of time. With natural fertilizers their nutrient content is less predictable than that of man made fertilizer. It is also important for you to apply it at the right time for it to be effective the soil needs to be warm and moist for it to start the reaction of the breaking down of the material. Regular fertilization or feeding of any plants promotes healthy growth through out its life.
